Vince Steele is the Organizing Director with the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights.  Here he manages the organizing team and leads the expansion and development of the Ella Baker Center membership.

Born and raised in Detroit Michigan, Vince comes to us from a union family where he continued his family’s legacy working in the labor movement in southern California.  He served many years with Service Employees International Union (SEIU) as a labor organizer, winning major victories for low income communities of color with campaigns such as “Fight for a fair Economy”, and “Fight for $15” which raised the minimum wage in Los Angeles.  Subsequently, Vince managed the organizing and representation departments within SEIU for the workers of the Los Angeles Unified School District.  Additionally he was staff lead on the Social Economic and Global Justice committee working to build solidarity with other labor organizations, community leaders and non-profits to combat issues of police brutality, gentrification and immigration rights.

In his most recent position at the California Schools Employees Association (CSEA), Vince was responsible for negotiating collective bargaining agreements that improved wages and working conditions for workers in Ventura County.

Vince studied at California State Dominguez Hills , earning a Bachelor of Science. In his spare time, Vince enjoys staying active with sports, hikes, and bike riding.
